Survivor of Abuse Encourages a Legacy of Caring

“He ripped my hair out from the roots … he would spit in my face,” says a Fayette Cares client and survivor of domestic violence.  “I dreamed of being a nurse but he would tear up my scrubs and wouldn’t watch the kids so I couldn’t go to school.”  The survivor describes the controlling behaviors and horrible circumstances that brought her to Fayette Cares.

At Fayette Cares this family received an array of services and support including shelter and supplies for basic needs, life skills classes and training resources, volunteer mentors, and more.  The journey to recover from mental and physical abuse was long but the time and resources spent yielded lasting results.  Mom is now a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) preparing her family to transition into a home of their own.  Fayette Cares staff and volunteers celebrate with this family, knowing they are no longer a “low-income” program participant and can now afford to live independently.

Supporters of this important work can now show their lasting commitment by bidding on shelter naming rights during the annual Fayette Cares charity galaA Night of Southern Elegance on November 7th.  For one year Fayette Cares will proudly recognize the winning bidder on prominently placed landscaped signage, at the supportive housing entrance, on the Fayette Cares website, and at events, in newsletters, correspondence, and emails throughout the year.

“Fayette Cares gave me support … they were my family.” Without intervention, the cycle of violence and poverty would likely have continued for this family, perhaps for generations to come.  Instead this once traumatized family found the nurturing experiences and opportunities they needed to write a new story with a joyful outcome.  Fayette Cares Shelter Naming Rights provide a beautiful way to for individuals, organizations or businesses to spotlight their caring organizations, celebrate achievements, commemorate milestones or honor the memory of a loved one, all while providing vital funding for life changing services.

Those not attending the November 7th gala may place an absentee bid for shelter naming rights.   To learn more about Naming Rights, including absentee bidding options, or to get involved in A Night of Southern Elegancebenefiting Fayette Cares on November 7th, 2015 visitANightofSouthernElegance.com or call (901) 465-3802 x 223.
