Putting Families on the Path to Bigger and Better Things

Darnel Hamer

I’m thrilled to announce that Fayette Cares has lost a staff member!  Odd reaction to turnover, you say?  Consider that a short time ago Darnell was homeless.  He, his wife, and three children were welcomed into the Fayette Cares shelter.  Soon after, he was hired as a clerk in the donation center and thrift shop.

Because of your support he was able to learn valuable job skills at Fayette Cares.  As he interacted with donors making contributions of clothing, furniture, and housewares, he sharpened his public relations skills.  He assisted shoppers searching for bargains and honed his salesmanship.   Managing the register, inventory and promotions, helped build his retail business savvy.  All the while, his Case Manager guided him to employment opportunities and prepared him for interviews.

The experience gained at Fayette Cares launched him on to bigger and better things.  We’re thrilled to say that he is now the Assistant Store Manager for a retail discount chain.

“I’m so happy to have been part of an organization that helps people who help themselves,” said Darnell, “thank you for all of your love and support at Fayette Cares!”

Together we are turning hopelessness into hope, hope into independence, and independence into lasting solutions.  Darnell and his family are on a bright path but another family will need our help tomorrow. Let’s be there to help, together. Please continue the important work of Fayette Cares by making a contribution at FayetteCares.org/donate.
