Out With the Cold, In With the Color at April 16 Fayette Cares Plant Sale

This year the first day of Spring ended with freezing temperatures.  Precisely why Fayette Cares strategically schedules their annual plant sale after the typical frost-free date, making it the optimal time to purchase vegetables, herbs and flowers for our region. Anyone who enjoys gardening, or is anxiously anticipating spring color, should mark their calendars for the 24th Annual Fayette Cares Plant Sale, Saturday, April 16th, 8:30 a.m.—2:30 p.m. at First Citizens National Bank in Oakland, TN (in front of Kroger).

Resisting the temptation to purchase plants until the sale can be good for your garden and for those in need.  Now is a good time to clean and thin flower beds and gardeners are asked to donate these plants for the Homegrown section of the sale.  Donations of plants like hostas, cannas, lilies, and more will be sold, with 100% of proceeds benefiting Fayette Cares.  Homegrown donations are welcomed by 7:30 a.m. on sale day or may be scheduled for pick up by calling (901) 465-3802 x 221.

Maximize your plant purchasing dollars with an early bird gift certificate.  Each $20 gift certificate entitles you to a bonus of $5 in free plants.  The certificates are available only at First Citizens National Bank in Oakland, TN until April 15th.  First Citizens National Bank in Oakland is offering more gift certificate bonuses for those who start a new bank service or product, giving up to an additional $10 in free plants.  Maximum of four gift certificates per customer, see location for details.

At the sale there will be a wide assortment of annuals, perennials, hanging baskets, tropicals, shrubs, vegetables, herbs, and more.  Products will be available from trusted vendors including Willow Oaks Flower Farm, Lucerne Farms, and Country Gardens Nursery.  Fayette County Master Gardeners and plant experts will also be on-hand to offer advice and guidance.

The event offers fun for the whole family including Fayette County Master Gardener demonstrations, a free inflatable bounce house, coloring contest, and a planting station with take-home flower gift for the children.   The fun can continue throughout the day at the Oakland Springfest less than two blocks from the plant sale.

Those who shop, donate, or volunteer at the charity sale will help charity bloom by providing shelter for the homeless, safety from domestic violence, and stability for families in financial crisis.    Learn more at www.fayettecares.org/plantsale or call (901) 465-3802 x 221.  Fayette Cares is a United Way agency.
