Fayette Cares, Inc. receives THDA grant funds

Fayette-Cares-ESG

Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) awarded a $75,000 federal Emergency Solutions Grant to Fayette Cares, Inc. to assist rural West Tennessee’s homeless population.

The Fayette County-based non-profit will use the funds for rapid rehousing and technology services that will assist both homeless individuals and families in Fayette County.

The allocation of ESG funds was approved by the THDA Board of Directors at their May meeting in Clarksville.

Cities, counties and non-profit organizations in Tennessee are eligible to apply for the funds through a competitive grant process THDA administers. Fayette Cares, Inc. was one of 21 recipients of ESG funding statewide in the Spring 2015 competitive grant process. THDA dispersed a total of $1,652,183 among the successful applicants.

ESG funds provide facilities capital as well as essential social services, street outreach, rapid rehousing assistance and Homeless Management Information Systems in non-metro areas. Chattanooga, Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville-Davidson County are not eligible to compete for ESG funds because they already receive their own Community Development Block Grant funds directly from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

As the State’s housing finance agency, the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) is a self-sufficient, independently funded, publicly accountable entity of the State of Tennessee. THDA’s mission is to ensure that every Tennessean has access to safe, sound, affordable housing opportunities. More information about THDA programs can be found online at www.thda.org.
