Fayette Cares 5k/1k Most Colorful Event in Fayette County

Massive bursts of color filled the air at the Fayette Cares High Cotton 5k/1k Color Run/Walk on Saturday, September 8th in Somerville, TN.  The event drew nearly 500 registrants to take part in the most vibrant charity race ever seen in Fayette County.

Both aerial and ground photography captured the brilliant display of colors and smiling faces.  The colorful day was also a reminder that domestic violence doesn’t know color.  It devastates lives and communities regardless of race, religion, or social status.  The funds raised by sponsors, runners/walkers, and volunteers will help Fayette Cares provide services to break the cycle of violence and save lives.

The crowd was delighted to have awards emcee WMC Action News 5’s Joe Birch, who himself was a race winner.  The competition was dominated by husband and wife running superstars and Overall Male and Female winners Brittany (22:00) and Kevin Knowlton (17:32) of Leawood, KS.   Back for another Female and Male Masters trophy were Pam Pierski (24:55) of Somerville, TN and Tonydee Davis (18:40) of Three Way, TN.  Also celebrating victory were Female Grand Masters Sharon Chandler (28:00) of Germantown, TN and Male Grand Masters David Childe (22:59) of Memphis, TN.

Color Mile Sponsor Fayette County Public Schools rallied every school throughout the system, bringing students, parents, and faculty to the event.  Once again, Fayette County Public Schools registered the largest team with nearly 120 participants.

Somerville Animal Hospital, also a Color Mile Sponsor, had a team of two-legged and four-legged runners.  Much like the human runners, Bentley the dog was color blasted along the course.

Caring sponsors made it possible to offer an event that was fun for the community while helping to raise funds for the meaningful services of Fayette Cares.  Sponsors included Color Mile Sponsors Fayette County Public School and Somerville Animal Hospital, Runner Number Sponsor The Seam, and Event Sponsors Absolute Comfort Heating and Air Conditioning, LLC, Central Distributors, Costco, Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, The Fayette Falcon, FirstBank, Print Solutions, Somerville First United Methodist Church, TriState Printing, and Trustmark Bank, and Supporters Alan Howell Photography, Alan Warren Photography, David Kelley Jewelers, Fayette Academy, Farmer’s Home Furnishings, Middlecoff Dental, and Oak Grove Gin.
