A message from Executive Board Member Percie Stong-Jenkins

I am so proud to be a board member and advocate for Fayette Cares.
Unfortunately, domestic violence can occur at all levels of society, no matter the person’s race, economic status or sexual orientation.  Although women are disproportionately victimized, men can also be victims of abuse.
Recent statistics indicate:
  • Tennessee is ranked 4th worst state for domestic violence crimes.
  • Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women — more than car accidents, muggings and rapes combined.
  • More than 1 in 3 women and more than 1 in 4 men in the U.S. have experienced rape, physical violence and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
  • An estimated 10 million children witness domestic violence each year.

Please view this video to learn about the impact of abuse and how Fayette Cares is working to break the cycle of violence.

No matter what children know about a “crisis,” it’s especially frightening for them to realize that their parents are scared. Living with that fear can have long-term consequences. We know now that many people who find themselves homeless had traumatic experiences in childhood. Fayette Cares works with victims and community partners; strengthening efforts to identify and respond to those at the greatest risk. When you support the work of Fayette Cares lives can be saved and transformed. Another family will need us tomorrow. Let's be there to help, together.
