High Cotton Race Ends on a High Note

Spirits were high as cotton bale trophies were presented to runners and walkers from 7 – 76 years of age at the September 9th Fayette Cares High Cotton 5k/1k.  Hundreds of registrants showed up and showed love for the life changing services of Fayette Cares at this annual charity race.

The crowd was delighted to have awards announced by celebrity emcee WMC Action News 5’s Joe Birch.  The first female to cross the finish was 14 year old Cecilia Hunter of Somerville, TN with a time of 23:09.  Tonydee Davis of Three Way, TN was the Overall Male winner coming in at 18:34.  Also celebrating victory were Overall Female Master Terri Harris of Memphis, TN at 23:44, Overall Male Master Shayne Fawcett of Somerville, TN at 18:39, Overall Female Grand Master Amy Lahey of Somerville, TN, at 24:02, and Overall Male Grand Master David Childe of Memphis, TN at 23:16.

Event sponsors, participants, and volunteers made it possible to raise funds for vital Fayette Cares services that end homelessness, break the cycle of violence, and restore stability after crisis.   Sponsors included Fayette County Public Schools, Memphis Contract Packaging, Somerville Animal Hospital, Central Distributors, City Fitness, Cora Bella’s Dance Company, Costco, Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, Karen Love of Kaizen Realty, Print Solutions, The Seam, Somerville First United Methodist Church, Tri-State Printing, Trustmark Bank, and SFMP/Oakland Primary Care.
