Over 52 teams and a record 208 golfers took to the award winning greens of Fair Oaks Golf Club in Oakland, TN on April 28th for the 10th Annual Fayette Cares Golf Extravaganza. Sponsors, golfers and volunteers gave generously to help Fayette Cares end homelessness, break the cycle of domestic violence, and create stability for families in crisis.
The event was filled with entertainment and fun. Eight time World Long Drive Finalist Kyle Blakely impressed players by hitting incredibly long drives with a left handed driver turned upside-down. Golf enthusiasts waged bidding wars for authentic golf and other sports memorabilia including signed photos of 2015 Masters and US Open winner Jordan Spieth, and the Big Three: Palmer, Player and Nicklaus. Facebook bidders even got in on the bidding action volleying for Peyton Manning memorabilia which featured commemorative Super Bowl tickets.
Golfers were treated to prizes including golf clubs and bags, rounds of golf, and awards for contests. They were well fed by meal sponsors starting with warm breakfast biscuits and hot coffee from Huddle House of Oakland TN, lasagna, pizza and deli sandwiches from Coletta’s Italian Restaurant and finally a hot plate dinner with salad and dessert compliments of BancorpSouth.
The Thrasher Clinic foursome claimed tournament victory shooting a very impressive 53, followed by the Parker team in second place with 54, and team Whitehorn took third place via a scorecard playoff by carding a very respectable 55.
