Girl Scout Goes for the Gold by Serving Fayette Cares

Claire-Tracy-with-Fayette-Cares-Donation-BoxesGirl Scout Claire Tracy is working to achieve the prestigious Gold Award by leading a project to build Fayette Cares donation drop boxes for placement throughout Fayette County.

Claire wants to help Fayette Cares receive contributions of clothing, shoes and basic household goods which can aid families in crisis, including victims of abuse who are fleeing danger, families who have lost their belongings in a disaster, homeless families entering the Fayette Cares shelter and more.  Items donated to Fayette Cares may also be sold in their charitable shops to generate revenue for crisis intervention services.

Claire will triple the existing donation drop sites, expanding form two receptacles to six. She is actively searching for community partners, like schools and churches, who may be willing to host the boxes and routinely deliver collected donations to Fayette Cares. The current drop sites are hosted by Warren Community Church in Somerville, TN and Faith United Methodist Church in Oakland, TN.

A senior at St. Benedict at Auburndale High School, Claire has worked on this project with the Somerville Rotary Club to gather materials, Tennessee Technology Center at Whiteville to weld the receptacles, and St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church Knights of Columbus Council #14482 to paint the boxes.  The project may earn her the Girl Scout Gold Award, which represents the highest achievement in Girl Scouting, recognizing girls who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through projects that have a sustainable impact in their communities.
