Fayette County Public Schools’ Students Care

Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) instills values in their students by once again raising funds to support the work of Fayette Cares.  FCPS has made it an annual goal to be a $20,000 sponsor for the Fayette Cares charity gala A Night of Southern Elegance on Saturday, November 2, 2019 in Piperton, TN.

Leading by example, teachers and faculty create fun experiences helping children become caring, responsible, and community-minded students. Whether it’s cozy Pajama Day, Team Jersey Day, or soaking teachers with water balloons for a cause, kids learn the importance of helping neighbors in need. They bring coins and bills to grow their math skills and their caring hearts.

During October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Fayette Cares shines a light on the dark topic of family violence. “Decades of research reveals that adverse childhood experiences, like prolonged exposure to violence, can have a devastating impact on a child’s developing brain,” says Dr. Marlon King, Superintendent of Fayette County Public Schools. The toxic stress of family violence can increase the risk of emotional and physical problems, problems in school, substance abuse, and even reduced earning potential and life expectancy. Witnessing family violence is the largest predictor that a child is likely to experience or perpetrate abuse. “The issue devastates families and communities,” continues Dr. King, “and we all have a responsibility to help break the cycle. We can do that by supporting the work of Fayette Cares.”

FCPS joins community supporters in sponsoring the Fayette Cares gala on November 2nd. Caring sponsors include MCR Safety, Ring Container Technologies, AOC Aliancys, G & G Repair, Tom & Neta Fleps, Fayette Janitorial & Fayette Industrial, Invenergy, Yancey Farms, West TN Ready Mix, Mahaffey Event & Tent Rentals, Sunrise Buick GMC at Wolfchase, Central Distributors, Konica Minolta, Hometowne Flowers, Rae Creative, Print Solutions, and many others.

A Night of Southern Elegance is a fun and elegant evening of fine wine and dining, an extraordinary auction, and lively dancing benefiting Fayette Cares.  Typically, a sold out crowd of 500 guests from Fayette, Shelby and surrounding counties attend, with hundreds more supporting the event through auction donations and volunteerism.

Tickets are $125 per person, $900 for a table of eight or $1,500 for a premium table including luxury transportation courtesy of Sunrise Buick GMC at Wolfchase. By attending, sponsoring, and donating to the event, supporters fund efforts to provide safety and stability from crisis for families in the Mid-South.
