First-Ever Fayette Cares Color Blast Run/Walk Builds Excitement

Excitement is in the air as Fayette County Public Schools prepare for the start of the school year, including plans for another huge show of support at the annual Fayette Cares charity race.  This year Fayette Cares is turning up the fun with the first-ever High Cotton 5k/1k COLOR Blast on Saturday, September 8th, in Somerville, TN.

“Only in Fayette County does a public school system lead hundreds of students, teachers, and parents to support the local charity,” says Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Marlon King.  As a Color Mile sponsor Fayette County Public Schools will host two color powder stations to shower runners and walkers in school colors along the race course.  “We’re ready to raise funds so that Fayette Cares continues to help thousands of our neighbors in need and we’re going to have a color blast showing our school pride!” Every school in the system participates in a registration challenge.  Teachers, students, and parents show their school pride as they run, walk, skip, and dance in the race wearing tutus, face paint, group shirts, and other fun displays.

The race will feature a color powder show along the scenic course that winds through a nearly 200 year old cemetery.  Participants get a colorful race shirt and compete for cotton-themed 5k trophies or earn 1k participant medallions.  Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome and those with a competitive streak will love the chip timing with fast results.  Awards are presented at the Fayette County Chamber Cotton Festival offering live music, inflatables, games, food, shopping, a car show and more.

Schools, organizations, and businesses are encouraged to sponsor as a way to support the cause while advertising in a unique and meaningful way.  Fayette County Public Schools are among many Fayette Cares sponsors joining the colorful race.  Others include Color Mile Sponsor Somerville Animal Hospital, Runner Number Sponsor The Seam, and Event Sponsors Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, The Fayette Falcon, Print Solutions, Somerville First United Methodist Church, and Trustmark Bank.

With individual registration of $25 and family packages only $75 (rates go up after Aug. 27th), everyone can enjoy a memorable color blast event for a great cause.  Click to register, learn more, or participate as a school group or call (901) 465-3802 x 223.
