A Message from Board Secretary, Civil Miller-Watkins

Fayette Cares has been a fulfilling way to reach one of my heart goals: helping others.

While attending the University of TN at Martin I realized that I wanted to be a help to my community. One of the paths chosen was to learn how human society develops, functions and is structured. So, I pursued and obtained a degree in Sociology.

Then my focus turned to creating additional avenues that would allow me to take part in mending the hearts and minds of fellow citizens that may have had adverse experiences. This decision led me to reach for and receive a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work.

This awesome path provided me with insight on how to encourage fellow community members in ways of strengthening their individual and collective lives. Assisting in developing skills, encouraging the use of resources and helping to resolve challenges has been a very fulfilling vocation.

Fayette Cares provides avenues to assist those that find themselves in need.  How?  By gearing programs around several of the ideals I chose to hold dear while attending college. This includes making people feel safe, educating on various life topics, increasing personal skills and helping to attain employment.

I hope you’ll join me in supporting the work of Fayette Cares.   Whether you donate, volunteer, or attend an event, together we can “Build the Village” one heart and mind at a time.
